School Fundraisers Compete In A Crowded Market
That's not the fault of the parent's, the school, or anyone else in particular, except perhaps the government's reluctance to fund our schools. It makes school fundraisers a necessity.
But what it means is that school fundraisers are operating in a crowded market. Think about how many schools there are around you, all running school fundraisers. Heaps. Each of those schools is competition for the fundraising dollar.
So for school fundraisers to be successful they need something different. Something to get over the "oh no, not again" effect from parents. A school fundraiser with a difference.
Or maybe.........?
Maybe some lateral thinking is required. How about targeting a different group of donors.
School fundraisers which target the same people, usually the parents, over and over, will be hard pressed to remain successful over time. People can only offer support for so long before they tire of it. So be different.
Have you considered doing an inventory of different community groups? How many school leavers belong to other organisations not associated with the school now? How many organisations would have some ability or inclination to support their local school if they were approached the right way?
It's all in how you do it.
What counts here are the words "approached the right way". One type of approach will work, another will not. It's the way you approach an organisation that determines the success of the fundraiser, and it's the way you approach that differentiates the fundraising professional from the amateur.
